We are offering the opportunity for both beginning and experienced meditators to practise in a group setting. Instruction is available for anyone wishing to learn the basics of meditation. We will follow the schedule as outlined below.
A good source of Lam Rim teachings is Joyful Path of Good Fortune by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. It has frequently been used as study text by Lam Rim groups at this centre in the past.
Guided Lam Rim meditations come form a variety of sources, such as The New Meditation Handbook by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. An outline of guided Lam Rim meditations can be found at the end of this notice.
Please note that there is no problem with dropping into the class at any point. Please feel free to come when you can. You can find out what topics we'll be exploring by visiting the class's online discussion forum.
Schedule:
7:00-7:10 Opening prayers and mantras
7:10-7:30 Sitting mindfulness/shamatha meditation
7:30-8:00 Group study and meditation of Lam Rim
8:00-8:30 Dedication and open time for discussion and/or questions
In the event that a session may need to be cancelled, advance notification will be sent out via an e-mail to the Gaden Chöling email mailing list (to subscribe, send us a request) and via an advance posting on the front page of the Gaden Chöling website.
Please note that we also offer a weekly Sunday morning shamatha meditation group.
Please refer any inquiries to Bryan at frysk@sympatico.ca
This class has an online discussion forum accessible only to people who have created an account at this website and logged in. The forum is used to announce the upcoming lamrim topic before the class, and sometimes for online discussion of the topic after the class.
Those participating or interested in participating in the class are encouraged to create an account (if they don't already have one), log in (if they have an account, and aren't already logged in), and subscribe to the forum. You can subscribe by going to the forum, clicking the "Edit your forum subscriptions" link in the left sidebar, then marking the checkbox for "GC Forum: Tuesday Lamrim Class" and clicking the "Save" button. You'll then receive email notifications when there are new postings to the class's forum. More information about the forum system is available.
